This month we're highlighting off-campus service events that allowed us to reconnect with our local communities!

SNAP

SNAP stands for Special Needs Activity Program.  Families of children with various types of physical and cognitive limitations use the program to keep their children active and engaged with peers while learning new skills in a fun, supportive environment. The program strives to promote independence and improve the quality of life through athletic and arts programming and to create positive recreational and social experiences for children and young adults (ages 3-21) who have a physical or learning disability.

Suicide Prevention Walk

Bergen County hosts a yearly suicide prevention walk. The Community Walks, held in hundreds of cities across the country, are the core of the Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004. These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that's smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we've lost.

MEVO or restore native plants

MEVO stands for Mahwah Environmental Volunteers Organization. Part of this mission is to build grassroots momentum for the environmental movement within local communities and to inspire individuals to create long-term change within their communities. Since MEVO was founded in 2008, we have mobilized over 7,000 volunteers of all ages to carry out over 70,000 hours of environmental community service at over 450 environmental volunteer events in Northern New Jersey and Lower New York State.
