Countdowns and Additional Announcements!
49 Days until Election Day (As of Tuesday, September 15)
The parties’ nominating conventions are now in the history books. President Trump and former VP Biden are traveling the country hoping to win the states that will yield 270 Electoral College votes come November 3 (or soon after). 6.57 million people in the U.S. have contracted COVID-19. Protests and counter-protests have become a feature of daily life. Voting by mail is challenged and promoted. There remains a shortage of poll workers. Wildfires are devastating California and they are raging in 9 other states, including Oregon and Washington State. Is climate change contributing to the severity of the fires? Many say yes. Others disagree. Funding to combat natural and human-caused disasters depends on who is in office from the federal level down to our states and cities and towns. Your vote does matter.
Every single day is a day closer to the November Election, and as we inch closer to that November Tuesday, it is important to remember that your vote really does matter; with your vote, you can help to elect public servants who best serve your interests and those of your community.
And your vote extends much further than just the Presidential race. Along with the ballot for president, Ôàô of Senate seats (including one in NJ) will be up for election, as well as all 435 U.S. House of Representative seats. We have 12 of those 435 congressional districts in NJ. All 12 of those seats will be decided on November 3rd. Beyond that, your vote can help to elect politicians on the state and local level who help shape local and state policies that directly affect you and your community. And in the state of New Jersey, you will have the chance to use your voice to directly affect policy- by getting to vote on two key amendments to the state’s Constitution. Find out more here. Become a poll worker. Register to vote. Find out if you are registered. Learn about the issues
So get out the vote, because your vote really does matter!

Black Lives Matter at Ramapo
What do we mean when we use the phrase "Black Lives Matter"? We will unpack that and other issues related to the Black experience in this colloquium: a series of lively, scholarly, and organic discussions that will allow faculty, staff, and students to share in important conversations around race, justice, representation, and the current state of race relations on our campus.
In the context of the national protests this summer and the national elections this fall, our goal is to stimulate and inform conversation in the Liberal Arts tradition. The structure will be a short series of ´¼üve presentations by Ramapo professors based on their work, that links scholarship to activism and current events. The events will feature presentations by faculty across diverse ´¼üelds of study who work with issues of race, representation, and social justice in their research, followed by group discussion of strategies to teach and learn about the Black experience and to advocate for structural change.
Presenters and Topics:
September 23 | Regina Clark (CA), Black Activism at Ramapo
September 30 | Indya Jackson (HGS), New Jersey's Unsung Black Radical Tradition
October 7 | Tammi Redd (ASB), Minority Entrepreneurship and the Digital Divide
October 14 | John Peffer (CA), Racial Pro´¼üling and Photographic Imaging
