Our Mission

The Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) engages the Ramapo community in evidence-based education that cultivates affirmative consent, active upstander intervention, and healthy relationships to challenge rape culture and prevent sexual violence. We believe violence prevention is an act of community care. By fostering a culture of mutual respect, shared responsibility, and relational accountability, we empower every community member to help create the conditions for collective well-being so that everyone can thrive.

VIP Program

Violence Intervention Peers (VIPs) are student leaders who help prevent sexual violence by promoting affirmative consent, healthy relationships, and active upstander intervention. As educators and community builders, VIPs encourage peers to recognize opportunities to intervene safely, challenge harmful norms, and help create a campus culture rooted in respect, accountability, and community care. This is done through the creation of interactive, fun, and engaging events and programs to educate Ramapo's student body on the importance of Violence Prevention on the basis of sexual violence, sexual assault, stalking, and any other form of interpersonal violence. To get more information on event programming or how to apply to this program, email ovp@ramapo.edu.
